I submitted version 1.5.1 today. This is minor bug fixed version up. (See also: TwitterFon 1.5 Known Issues) However, there's a one big change which is app icon. I got many complain about new icon, then Sarah Tan, one of beta testers, send me a great icon. I hope you'll like it too. Also, Timeline View UI has been improved a little bit. User's screen name is now hyperlink to open User Timeline View, so this is good short cut to open user's timeline. TwitterFon 1.5 Known Issues

Posted by Kazuho Okui on 5/18/2009 02:12:00 AM

These are TwitterFon 1.5 (both free and pro) known issues:
  • TwitterFon uploads a portrait photo with wrong direction.
  • Trends search breaks navigation UI.
  • Timestamp in Timeline View isn't updated automatically
  • Local cache db error or app crashes. (rarely happens)
  • TwitPic 1001 error. (I'm working on it, but couldn't reproduce the issue yet. Not sure the issue is in TwitterFon or TwitPic)
If you have the database error or app crashes often, clear local cache will solve the issues:

TwitterFon Pro has been released!

Posted by Kazuho Okui on 5/18/2009 12:00:00 AM

I'm very happy to announce that TwitterFon Pro 1.5 has been approved! Here is what's in the pro version.

Multi account with 4 Themes

This has been most requested feature since I release TwitterFon version 1.0. TwitterFon handles multiple twitter account very smoothly. Take a look UI: So, you have reload button and post button which is exactly same as free version. But as you can see TwitterFon Pro has special navigation title bar which has 2 strings. One is timeline type, and the other is current account name. You can tap this to add or change your accounts. The Accounts View gives you not only add / change account, but also gives you number of your friends and follwwers. Also, detail disclosure button opens Profile View. You can edit account settings and reorder accounts cell. In Account Settings View, you can customize auto load option, themes, and bit.ly. You can use different theme for each accounts.

Landscape Keyboard and Shake to Reload

These are also requested many times. New landscape Post View is not just rotate the current existing Post View. It has dedicated layout.

Integration

TwitterFon integrates bit.ly and Instapaper. You can set bit.ly username and password to make your own shorten URL and track it. You can also use Instapaper to read web pages later.

We'll keep to continue improvement

TwitterFon Pro is an ideal twitter client for advanced Twitter users. But we won't stop here. We will continue to improve Pro version as well as Free one. There are lots of tasks on our the table. Much better themes, more integration (e.g. ping.fm, blip.fm), optimize app speed and so on. TwitterFon Pro is $4.99 on AppStore. Buy this app to support making the best twitter client for iPhone!

Ads temporarily suspended

Posted by Kazuho Okui on 5/16/2009 04:00:00 PM

I suspend the ad display on TwitterFon for now. The new TwitterFon has an ad feature, for which I got quite a few passionate responses. My plan was to release this new version together with the ad-free pro version so that you will have a choice. Due to my mistake in submitting to App Store, however, the ad-supported free version came out before the pro version, leaving you with no choice but to have to see the ads. I am truly sorry for that. To alleviate your pain a little, I decided to take out the ads until the pro version comes out. As I explained in the previous post, adding ads will enable me to dedicate more resources to TwitterFon to make it better. It is also a proof of my deepened commitment to TwitterFon, elevating its importance for me from a pet moonlighting project. I hope to show you my appreciation of your support with enhanced features and usability in the near future.

TwitterFon 1.5 has been released!

Posted by Kazuho Okui on 5/14/2009 11:40:00 AM

I'm very happy to announce the release of TwitterFon 1.5. There are huge improvements on the Pro version, but even the Free one has been improved quite well. Here is what's new in version 1.5. New Rich Text Timeline View We provide this excellent feature for all TwitterFon users. This is a huge improvement. TwitterFon now has rich text views for all twitter timelines. This feature provides a very easy way to navigate links in tweets. Before version 1.5, you had to tap the link icon to open a link. You had to tap twice if the tweet had more than 2 links (Open Link View, then select a link). Rich text also creates extra room since it doesn't need a link button. Now you can easily toggle your favorites, and it's easy to open the user timeline from the @username link. The Rich Text View engine is copyrighted by Satoshi Nakagawa, an excellent iPhone application and Ruby Cocoa engineer. User Lookup TwitterFon 1.5 has a new user lookup shortcut on the search tab. When you tap the search text field, the Trends button becomes a Profile button. Enter a screen name and tap the profile button to open a profile. You can also tap the profile button with blank text to open your own profile. Quick access to Twitter Trends or Search History TwitterFon opens a blank view when you tap the search tab. With Version 1.5 you can customize this behavior. Go to System Settings.app and select "Search startup screen". Choose either "None" (default), "Search", "History", or "Trends". If you choose "Trends", TwitterFon opens twitter trends immediately tapping the search tab. If you choose "Search", TwitterFon searches twitter with the latest keyword. If you choose "History", you can see the search history. And other things TwitterFon 1.5 also has two new options: Font size settings and auto load timeline settings. There is also a shortcut to install a bookmarklet for your Mobile Safari. The last thing that we added an ad on top of friend timeline. We wrote about ad support on here. TwitterFon 1.5 is free and available on App Store today. Update 03/15/2009 If you are having an issue with local cache error, please clear your local cache from system's Settings.app. * Open Settings.app -> Tap TwitterFon -> Clear local cache

Ad support for TwitterFon 1.5

Posted by Kazuho Okui on 5/14/2009 11:35:00 AM

You will start to see ads with the new free version of TwitterFon. I know, I know - it is a major change to the app known for its simple and clean interface. I started TwitterFon (and TwitterFox) as a hobby. Since then it has always remained just a hobby, though I was pretty passionate about it. However, the two applications have been downloaded over two million times, and it has become exceedingly difficult to continue to support them. I now receive many, many requests: Some from users, some from potential partners. It was fun to communicate with my fellow users in the beginning, but now I am inundated with all sorts of questions, requests, and proposals. As you all know, I love TwitterFon. I would love to keep improving it and adding better features. To do so I must focus on its development. Hiring other people is the only way to make it happen. I am also eager to polish our interface design by adding a great designer to our team. Unfortunately, hiring good people requires money. I have tried to incorporate an ad into TwitterFon in the most unobstructive way possible and I hope you like my choice. I may change the ad format from time to time to figure out the way that works best with users. Please bear with me!
